Ron Thompson (Poplar Lake) - fall 2018Ron Thompson was born and raised on Canada’s prairies. After training as a naval officer and backpacking across Europe, he spent two years working on the margins of the Kalahari Desert. He subsequently pursued a career in Canada and internationally as an economist, investment banker and consultant.

Ron is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Toronto, the London School of Economics, and the Humber School for Writers.  His fiction has appeared in Canadian Voices (Bookland Press), his short compositions on the website Exquisite Corpse, and his historical commentaries in the literary publication The Burney Letter. His satiric first novel, A Person of Letters, was published in September, 2015.  His second novel, Poplar Lake, will be published in 2018.

When Ron was seven his short story “The Dream” was awarded first prize at the annual Yorkton (Saskatchewan) Fair and Exhibition. Two years later another of his stories came third. He’s been striving to get back to the top ever since. He lives and writes in Toronto.
